About Us

ITHACA, by Konstantínos Kaváfis (1911).

As you set out for Ithaca
hope your road is a long one,
full of adventure, full of discovery.
Laistrygonians, Cyclops,
angry Poseidon - don't be afraid of them:
you' ll never find things like that on your way
as long as you keep your thoughts raised high,
as long as a rare excitement
stirs your spirit and your body.
Laistrygonians, Cyclops,
wild Poseidon - you won't encounter them
unless you bring them along inside your soul,
unless your soul sets them up in front of you.

Hope your road is a long one.
May there be many summer mornings when,
with what pleasure, what joy,
you enter harbours you're seeing for the first time;
may you stop at Phoenician trading stations
to buy fine things,
mother of pearl and coral, amber and ebony,
sensual perfume of every kind -
as many sensual perfumes as you can;
and may you visit many Egyptian cities
to learn and go on learning from their scholars.

Keep Ithaca always in your mind.
Arriving there is what you're destined for.
But don't hurry the journey at all.
Better if it lasts for years,
so you're old by the time you reach the island,
wealthy with all you've gained on the way,
not expecting Ithaca to make you rich.

Ithaca gave you the marvelous journey.
Without her you wouldn't have set out.
She has nothing left to give you now.
And if you find her poor, Ithaca won't have fooled you.
Wise as you will have become, so full of experience,
you'll have understood by then what these Ithacas mean.
My name is Claudia Roisentul and some years ago, I heard ÍTACA, a poem, by Konstantin Kavafis, (Ithaca).
When I heard this poem, I realized that I wanted to build a little Ithaca and that it would accompany me on this journey until the end of my days.

Traveling through a lot of places, I observed everything that I liked on the long way...

Argus was Odysseus' dog, in "The Odyssey". When Odysseus returned from his travels wearing the beggar's disguise that Athena had put him in, only his old dog Argus recognized him.

The Rhodesian Ridgeback is the most wonderful and magical breed I have ever met.

In these years of building this place in the world and studying different sources of inspiration I found our six base dogs. Plus our Tayari & Uyambo from the Aresvuma kennel in Russia.
They are (in order of appearance) Homer, Tisha, Roma, Athens, Penny, Tosca, Tayari and Uyambo.
From what I wanted, from what I could, this is what resulted.
The mission is to leave a better world.
To study, to investigate, to deepen in every aspect, everything that has to do with this undertaking.
The challenge is to achieve it... That is my credo.

"To believe means to assume that something is true, that is to say that it is the case that a certain state of things is given in reality, in the face of other possible ones and discarding them" - F. Sabater -

Time goes by, inexorably, today we are young, tomorrow too, haha, (Old is the wind and it still blows, says the saying) let's hope we can pass the baggage to those who will come with all the effort we put in doing each thing.

All our dogs live around us, without permanent enclosures in a 33 hectares property with a thousand places to play, run and learn, they accompany us in our chores and breaks, socialized and integrated, each one with its own characteristic... they are almost our children.

Our inseparable companions.
Our enterprise is called Argos, G & C. In Homer's "Odyssey," Odysseus was the legendary king of Ithaca who, when disguised as a beggar by Athena, goddess of wisdom, was recognized by his old dog, Argos, even after an absence of many years in which Odysseus endured many trials and tribulations. It is this love and loyalty that inspired us. And we seal it with our initials, G. and C., Guy and Claudia.

Our dogs are the children we did not have together. They live with us, without permanent enclosures, in an area with thousands of places to run, play and rest. They are our constant companions and completely socialized to their human and canine pack members.
