Our Breeding

Helping to advance the breed is the reason that Guy and I established Argos, G & C. More than an interest, breeding the Rhodesian Ridgeback is our passion and our quest for knowledge is never-ending. We painstakingly select the sire and dam for each litter of puppies we produce, carefully and thoroughly researching their ancestry, bloodlines, temperament and health history. We observe strict health protocols and exercise controls for such conditions as hip displasia and dermoid sinus.

It is this uncompromising attention to detail that preserves the gene pool, enhances the breed and combines the best and strongest traits of the sire and dam. And it is your assurance that the Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy that becomes part of your family is the result of exhaustive planning and the highest degree of pre and post natal care.

Argos, G & C policies set definitive nutrition, parasite control and vaccination protocols, and from the time they are whelped and until they are weaned, they live in our home.
Early on, the puppies' socialization begins as Guy and I routinely and frequently handle them. That sounds so clinical, especially in light of the fact that when we're with them, Guy and I are complete mushballs who coddle and cuddle them like a couple of lovesick teenagers!

While we have released puppies as early as 60 days after their whelp date, our preference is to wait for 90 days. The reason for this is that it allows for a less traumatic weaning process, enables the puppies to interact with their siblings and mother longer, and fosters their instinctual imperative to measure their strengths, test their limits, and prepare for the future as adolescents and ultimately well balanced adult.

But we recognize that family and social dynamics vary from household to household, and we exercise flexibility in balancing the needs of the adoptive family with the needs of the puppy of their choice.

WEANING

We do not deliver our puppies before 60 days at least, and suggest that it is 90 days. This allows less traumatic weaning, and socializing among the full siblings and mother, by then the puppy begins to measure their strengths, know your limits and be ready to learn. Respecting these times, we can ensure that the dog is balanced in that we have taken all the considerations.
